Reporting to the CIS Foundation
Stichting CIS stands for Stichting Centraal Informatie Systeem. Stichting CIS is a foundation that records certain information about consumers for various insurers.
This means that you can be registered when you have filed a claim with your insurer.
The CIS Foundation represents the interests of insurers. They do this by exchanging information between insurers and supervising the exchange of information, among other things. By exchanging information, participants are given the opportunity to protect themselves against abuse and to prevent and combat it.

Anyone can come into contact with the CIS Foundation. You can be registered when you have filed a claim with your insurer. The question of fault does not determine this. It will also be recorded when your insurer terminates the insurance. An insurer does not do this lightly, but when, for example, you have not fulfilled your obligations or in the case of unusually high claims.
Different registrations
There are several registrations in the database of the CIS Foundation.
What does a CIS registration mean? A CIS registration has to do with your insurance history. You can be registered with Stichting CIS for various reasons. It involves data that gives the insurer insight into the customer's insurance history, such as:
- Claimmelding
- Driving disqualification
- A damage history
- A police and judicial past
- Termination/termination by an insurance company.
- Fraud in claiming a loss
An insurance company has the right to cancel an insurance policy, under certain conditions. This is called cancellation and can happen when you do not pay the premium (on time).
Delete CIS registration
A CIS registration is registered for a maximum of 8 years. These are "special reports. These are, among other things, reports when there is evidence of fraud or deception. In other cases, the registration is automatically deleted after a maximum of 5 years.
Removing a CIS registration before the maximum duration has expired can only be done by the person who put the registration in the system. If you object to the registration and it turns out to be justified, the insurer can remove the registration.
Viewing CIS registrations
You have the right to see what information about you is registered with Stichting CIS. To do so, you can submit a request for inspection to Stichting CIS by completing the inspection form on the CIS website.
After you submit the web form, you will receive an e-mail that you sign and send by mail with a copy of valid identification to [email protected].
If you do not wish to use the web form, you may download and print the request for inspection.
You can then send the form fully completed and signed, with a copy of your valid ID, to:

The Vereende
Many people wonder if it is possible to get insurance if you have a CIS registration. When you want to apply for insurance or file a claim, most insurers make inquiries with Stichting CIS. It varies by case and company what an insurer does with this information. Usually, with a CIS registration you cannot go to a regular company. In this case De Vereende offers a solution.
De Vereende is a company that does want to insure special risks where regular companies drop out. De Vereende will always accept an insurance application, but the premium is higher than with regular insurance.
Before taking out insurance, De Vereende sets some conditions:
- You pay the premium at least 3 months in advance, even with monthly payments.
- The insurance takes effect only after receipt of the first premium and a signed application form.
- In most cases, De Vereende also charges an average deposit of €175, which you must pay in advance. If there has been no damage at the end of the insurance, this amount will be refunded to you.
If an insurance company has refused you because you are registered with Stichting CIS then it is possible at Alpina to accept you. Alpina is an intermediary of De Vereende. You can calculate the premium online and apply for the insurance.
De Vereende Insurance
De Vereende offers different types of insurance, namely:
- Car Insurance
- Liability insurance. With the liability insurance of De Vereende you are insured against damage that you accidentally cause to another person or to another person's belongings.
- Contents insurance. This insurance covers all movable items (things in the house that are movable) that belong to your private household.
- Home insurance. This insurance insures damage to your home and its immovable property (items in the house that cannot be moved, or earth and nail fixed).
Database contaminated by erroneous claims data
TV program Kassa discovered that the database of Foundation CIS not only contains claims, but also records data from people who have only made an information request.
