What is the Roy Data system?
The Roy Data system is the central database of the EPS Foundation. Roy Data has existed since September 1, 2007. Before that, you had to prove claim-free years with a cancellation statement. Nowadays, however, a digital system is used in which your claim-free years are registered. This happens after the insurance is terminated. When you then take out a new car insurance policy, your new insurer consults Roy Data to see how many claim-free years you have. This allows them to assign the correct premium discount and you will not pay too much for your car insurance later.

How exactly does the Roy Data system work?
You accrue claim-free years during the term of your car insurance policy. If the insurance is still running, your accumulated claim-free years are fixed in the car insurance. After ending your car insurance, the insurer puts your claim-free years in the Roy Data system. When you take out new insurance, your new insurer can claim the claim-free years and add them to your policy. The more claim-free years you have accumulated, the more premium discount you will receive. Therefore, it is important to register the correct number of claim-free years.

Is the Roy Data system up to date?
No, the Roy Data is not always current. This is because claim-free years are only registered when an insurance policy is terminated. That means that the data is updated as soon as the car insurance is stopped. If your car insurance is still active, the claim-free years you have accumulated during this period are not yet registered in Roy Data. So when you request the data, you may have accumulated more claim-free years in the meantime than are recorded in Roy Data. If you have claimed damage with the insurer, you may also have fallen back in claim-free years. Keep this in mind when viewing the data in the Roy Data system.
How long will my data be in the Roy Data system?
Claims-free years are not valid indefinitely. After canceling your car insurance, your claim-free years are valid for 3 years with most insurers. This differs per insurer. With some insurers this is only 2 years, but with others again 4 or even 5 years. So always check when taking out your car insurance how long claim-free years are valid with your insurer. So you know how long your claim-free years remain in the Roy Data system.
Would you like to see your data in the Roy Data system? Then you can request it on the EPS website by using the right of inspection form. Send this form together with a copy of your proof of identity. After sending the form, it may take some time before you receive your claim-free years. In most cases this takes a maximum of 28 days.
I think my claim-free years in Roy Data are not correct. What can I do?
It may happen that the registered claim-free years are not correct. In that case, your previous insurer probably registered an incorrect number of claim-free years. If you suspect an error, you can contact the insurer in question. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS for this. Stichting EPS cannot and may not adjust claim-free years.
