What is the Roy Data system?
The Roy Data system is the central database of Stichting EPS. Roy Data has existed since 1 September 2007. Previously, you had to prove your claim-free years with an expulsion statement. Nowadays, however, a digital system is used in which your claim-free years are registered. This is done after terminating the insurance policy. If you then take out a new car insurance, your new insurer consults Roy Data to see how many claim-free years you have. This way they can grant the right premium discount and you will not pay too much for your car insurance.
How does the Roy Data system work exactly?
You build up claim-free years during the term of your car insurance. When the insurance is still running, your accumulated claim-free years are fixed in the car insurance. When your insurance policy is terminated, the insurer will enter your claim-free years into the Roy Data system. When you take out a new insurance policy, your new insurer can claim the claim-free years and add them to your policy. The more claim-free years you have built up, the more premium discount you will receive. Therefore it is important that the correct number of claim-free years are registered.
Is the Roy Data system up to date?
No, the Roy Data is not always up to date. Claim-free years are only registered when an insurance policy is terminated. This means that the data is updated as soon as the car insurance is terminated. If your car insurance is still active, the claim-free years you have accrued during this period are not yet registered in Roy Data. When you request the data, it is possible that you have built up more claim-free years in the meantime than are recorded in Roy Data. If you have made a claim with the insurer you may also have fallen back in claim-free years. Keep this in mind when viewing the data in the Roy Data system.
How long will my data be in the Roy Data system?
Claim-free years are not valid indefinitely. After cancelling your car insurance, your claim-free years are valid for another 3 years with most insurers. This differs per insurer. With some insurers this is only 2 years, with others 4 or even 5 years. Always check how many claim-free years are valid with your insurer when you take out your car insurance. This way you know how long your claim-free years will remain in the Roy Data system.
Would you like to see your data in the Roy Data system? If so, you may request them on the website of Stichting EPS by completing the right of inspection form. You should send this together with a copy of your proof of identity. After sending the form, it may take a while before you receive your claim-free years. In most cases this takes a maximum of 28 days.
I don't think my claim-free years in Roy Data are correct. What can I do?
It may happen that the claim-free years registered are not correct. Your previous insurer probably registered the wrong number of claim-free years. If you suspect an error, you can contact the insurer concerned. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS about this. Stichting EPS cannot and may not adjust claim-free years.
